Exterior home painting Toronto Tips
Sometimes when doing an exterior home painting GTA requires Excavating around your home
is a good idea that most homeowners won't do before painting the walls outside. It is one step to ensure that the complete wall is being painted and protected, protecting from rot and moisture.
Preparation for painting outside
when getting ready to do the exterior painting you must think ahead of time and envision what has to be protected or removed. Sometimes it's a lot easier to remove something away from the painting area and the place it back when you're done. All the things which cannot be removed should be covered. If you're doing a lot of paint scraping and preparation work on the walls it is wise to cover the entire flower bed or bedding soil/garden with plastic and dump a little dirt on the corners keep it down and then to cover your bushes and flowers likewise with plastic or some type of light drop sheet. When you're painting around Windows doors and fixtures to speed up the process is better to tape (painters tape because you can remove it later easier) everything off first making sure that no paint gets where it shouldn't.
This is important because greatly speeds up the process before doing your exterior painting. When you do power washing on the exterior walls of your home not only are you removing the dirt but also you are blasting off loose pieces of paint. Also as you are power washing you are visually inspecting the wall and area you will be painting for future reference as to what to do with it. If you don't have a power washer a simple garden hose and a hard scrub brush will do almost the same just a little bit harder work.
watch out for such things as broken boards and cracks and loose boards, make sure that everything is secure and attached well. When you are satisfied that everything is structurally sound on your exterior walls make sure that all of the end gaps/connections to other parts are sealed with caulking (dap interior and exterior caulking) so no water can't penetrate it. And for cracks and wood repairs, we use dap (drydex spackling) we fill it in like a plaster repair.
Coats of paint needed
generally as a rule of thumb any repairs have to be primed with a high-quality exterior latex primer (follow the manufacturer's specifications and guidelines for using this product).
We are very successful with two coats of a premium quality exterior latex paint such as Sherwin-Williams paints Benjamin Moore paints. Again follow the manufacturer's recommendations for recoat for a second coat.
