One day your wood deck is frozen rock-hard and the next day there is a thaw. So this can continual freezing and thawing place havoc on your wood deck. When would it is moist and a quick freeze comes upon it the moisture has to expand because water when it freezes, gets bigger it splits open the wood a little more creating fissures in the wood. These fissures/splits in the wood collect dirt and rotten foliage creating a nice garden bed for things to grow and insects to live in ultimately destroying the surrounding wood. Then there is the sun which shines ultraviolet light beat down directly on the deck's surface all year long, that's why deck surfaces must be maintained every year. If you own a wood deck or patio there are some procedures which you should follow every year to ensure that this type of thing is prevented.

Every year we suggest that you wash your deck and there are a couple of different ways of washing the deck.

If you do not own a power washer you can still do it with a hose and a scrubbing brush. There is specific deck cleaning agents out there you can purchase from places like Home Depot or Rona or Lowe's that will help clean the deck. Follow the instructions on how to use this deck cleaner. Afterward, use a garden hose to wash everything off. The nice thing about using the garden hose it will not ruin your wood.

If you have a power washer then you have to be careful not to apply too much water pressure and stay in one spot of on the wood creating wood damage. Pressure washing takes a certain amount of skill and patience. If you are planning to use a pressure washer experiment a little bit to see what speed you have to pass over the wood with and how much pressure to use. Generally, we use the pressure washer at its lowest setting to ensure that we don't start lifting the wood fibers. If the wood fibers are lifted then the deck will actually need to be sanded which is an additional procedure. We operate in three regions but if you're more central to the states then you could have a look into

After washing your deck off and it has dried inspected to see if you have any Fix Deck Stain Problems on your deck. If your deck needs to be re-stained and you wish to use a semitransparent stain you need to be dealing with bare wood. You can't put staying on top of sections of stained would in bare wood at the same time because it will show up blotchy. The deck has to be sanded to a nice smooth clean look. This usually can be done by sanding the floor with a floor sander. We generally use 60 grit sandpaper to remove the bulk of the surface and then we use a 100 grit paper to get the ultimate finish. Now your floor is ready to stain. Floor sanding is necessary to open up the fibers to accept the stain and let the stain penetrate the wood.

We usually apply 2 coats of stain to get a nice deep floor finish.

Hopefully, this helps your fix deck stain problems.
