The Dos and Don’ts of House Painting Services
House painting services may seem easy, but there are things to be kept in mind if the house painting job is to bring the desired results. Considering these dos and don’ts in painting your house will allow you to complete your project with fewer hassles and in a shorter amount of time so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor sooner.
The Dos
Buy only the right amount of paint. Do not buy several cans of paint of a color that you are only going to use for a small area. Measure the area that you are going to paint and come up with an accurate estimate of the amount of paint that you need.
Choose the right color. You cannot change your mind after you buy your paint and mix your colors. Test a small amount of paint on a foam board and see if it turns out in the right shade that you want to use.
Clean the room before painting. Gather hanging frames, wall posters, and other accessories inside a box and move them to another room or outside where they are not likely to be damaged. Move furniture into another room or to the center space to give way for painting the walls and hard to reach areas. In covering the floor, use a drop cloth instead of plastic sheets because the latter can be messy and slippery.
Remove hardware such as doorknobs, switch plates, and mounted wires and place them inside a plastic bag or a box.
Set up a paint station in one corner where you can put your painting supplies. Put your paint tray, tape, rollers, brushes, stir sticks, rags, thinners, paint can openers, hammer, screwdriver, and ladder in this area.
Wear appropriate clothes for house painting. A loose-fitting dark colored shirt and comfortable shorts are ideal for painting. Wear clothing that allows you to move freely.
Choose the right brushes and rollers. Depending on wall’s texture and viscosity of the paint, certain rollers can be used. Meanwhile, artist’s brushes and angled-tip brushes are perfect for smaller details and areas.
Prepare small amounts of paint in a separate cup that can be used for touch-ups. Make sure to label the colors accordingly.
The Don't
Avoid rushing. Best results are achieved when you are patient. Taking time to do house painting for the whole day can be more productive instead of rushing through it for half day and making mistakes that require you to redo your work all over again.
Never paint without order. Always start with ceilings, then walls, doors, woodworks, and floors as the last.
Don’t bring back everything into the painted room immediately. Wait for 24 hours for the paint to completely dry.
Closing the room is a no-no. Instead, allow it to have proper ventilation by keeping the windows and doors open. Enough air and light can also help dry the paint on the wall faster.
Never clean or wash the rollers or brushes if they will be used again.
Don’t throw away leftover paint in the trash. Donate them to nearby centers that recycle waste materials or to others who have the use for them.
Avoid closing the lid of the paint can without cleaning the rim. To prevent unwanted splatters in the future, place a rag or paper towel on top of the can’s lid then hammer it for added security.
House painting should always be fun and rewarding. By keeping all these tips in mind, you are sure to have a satisfying creative experience coming up with your beautifully painted house.
