How to Kitchen Cabinet Painting
Kitchen cabinet Refinishing
Mississauga handyman painting for over 30 years has been painting kitchen we do all kinds of kitchen cabinets can be painted, wood, melamine, stained and varnished woods.
First preparation must be done before painting, this includes removing all the doorknobs and things that are on the doors and cabinets then cleaning any stains such as grease and dirt.
Once all the kitchen cabinets are clean you have to sand with finer sandpaper such as 120 grit to 180 grit. Any more course sandpaper you use, you will end up with scratches on your cabinet doors.
Once everything has been sanded take a tack cloth (you can use a lightly dampened clean cloth) to remove all the dust.
We use Benjamin Moore "advance" paint for kitchen cupboards and doors, this paint is a hard durable finish that will withstand heavy use. Benjamin Moore “advance” paint sticks directly to the surface without priming if you are using very light colors such as white or close depending on the color you are painting over it will take two or three coats. Please keep in mind that do not try to apply the paint on heavily you have bad effects. It will look like it has been hand-painted. but when you're going to paint with darker colours such as brown in this case we used dark quick dry primer first, applying a very thin coat not to apply so much as to give the wood a painted feel and look, let it sit overnight and then give it a very light sanding with 180 grit sandpaper just to remove any particles.
We usually apply two coats of very thin paint, sometimes even three coats. The trick is not to put so much paint on even if it looks like it covers well for the first coat because you will end up with a heavy painted look. When applying the paint just put on thick enough that it is barely hiding what's below it and make sure that you leave no marks of any kind such as the edge of the roller as you're going up and down. Work the paint out until you don't see any more lumpy deposits of paint.
As you can see this last photo the kitchen cupboard door looks like it was painted in the factory with a spray gun. The customer was extremely happy and pleased.
